The Garage Door

Hello to all of you out there in the Blogosphere!  No, I am not dead.  I realize that I have been in radio silence for the past several weeks.  I can explain…  For the past two and a half years I have been slowly losing my mind, which is slightly ironic because the journey I have been on was intended to expand my mind.

I went back to college, or University, as we like to call it…however, University must be said with a British accent.

Since I last posted, I have been wrapping up the final stages of my undergrad career.  I must confess, that was much more time consuming that I had originally given it credit.  Over the last couple of years, I have written between 75-100 papers of varying lengths and topics.  I have been quizzed and tested.  I learned how to read and write biblical Greek.  For the record, that particular exercise nearly killed me.  The expression, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” is spot on.  I learned enough Greek to pass that class, and barely recognize the alphabet!  It is still all Greek to me!  I have learned that not all people possess the ability to function in society apart from their parents…PSA, some 18-19 year olds need to continue to be home-schooled into their college years.  For that matter, not all 50-70 year olds possess that ability either.  A few, namely one professor, should really work on his people skills before next term begins.  It just so happens that I have a list of helpful suggestions for him regarding this area of concern, should he be at a loss as to how to begin his own journey of personal reflection.  I digress.

I apologize for absence on my own blog…the end of my last semester at school required all of my undivided attention.  I am thankful to say….drum roll, please…it is over.

I woke up this morning with no paper to write…no book to read….no test to study for…and no class for which to prepare.  And I was totally and utterly at a LOSS as to what I was going to do today.  The official graduation ceremony is this coming Saturday morning.  I will walk across the stage in my cap and gown, and receive my degree.  A simple piece paper stating that I successfully completed all of the required classes.  I should feel smarter.  Perhaps I will once I have my degree in my hand.  Perhaps I will be able to figure out the really complex situations in life on the first try, rather than the tenth…things like the Garage Door.  I unhooked the garage door from the pulley mechanism in order to close it manually, but then it seriously took me TEN FULL MINUTES to figure out how to reconnect the two pieces.

Technically, I am not a college graduate yet…I still have until Saturday morning.  Maybe by then, when Dr. Sloan hands me my degree something magical will happen, just like when the Wizard of Oz handed the Scarecrow his degree!  Maybe…  I can dream.  But then again, I did go to school for Christianity, not for engineering.

Here’s hoping your day is magical!

Whew, you’re back, knew you had way too much going on but it is good to have your sage musings to read. Need a pic or two of the “new” pool. God bless you!
