The Party’s Over

Turn out the lights…the party’s over…

Isn’t that how the old Willie Nelson song goes? That song played over and over and over in my head all day yesterday…yesterday I began the arduous task of un-decorating my house from Christmas. I know many of you are thinking, “WOW…it’s the middle of January!” True…it is. What can I say? I wanted to hold on to that holiday cheer for as long as I possibly could.

My poor downstairs looks positively naked. Bland. Boring…and sad. During Christmas I have five (yes, five) Christmas trees. I have between twenty and thirty Nativity sets, and enough snowmen to start my own Snowman Army. All of that came down yesterday, and was carefully, neatly, and lovingly packed away.

Over the summer, we did some remodeling…I’ll have to tell you about it sometime. Those shenanigans warrant their own post. But, one of the things to come out of that remodel was my very own Christmas Closet.

My sweet husband managed to locate within the walls (literally) about 300-square feet of unused attic space. One hole in the wall later, and voila! I had a new climate-controlled space to store my massive collection of holiday goodies!

Today, I will finish packing up the rest of my decorations that I could not get to yesterday. Today, I will put all of the boxes neatly into my new closet. Today, I will revel in the fact that through yesterday’s cleaning I only broke one nail and one ornament. Today, I will begin waiting on next Christmas.

Only 351 more sleeps.
