She’s Crazy

Some people can look at me, shake their head, and say, “She is crazy.”

They would not be wrong.

Years ago, Waylon Jennings had a song out with a line that went something like this, pardon me while I paraphrase, I’ve always been crazy, but it kept me from going insane.  I believe that to be true.  I think that a little crazy keeps you grounded.  Especially down here in the South, we don’t hide our crazy.  We parade it out front, sit it down on the porch, and bring it a glass of sweet tea.

However, every now and again, our crazy gets out of hand.  Someone will have to remind us that “Our Crazy is showing, and we need to tuck it back in.”  That’s usually when we end up on the People of Walmart website or on the 6:00 news for running over our husbands with the car.  Now, I told you all of that, to tell you this: Those are the things we do when we KNOW we are crazy…but…

What happens when we don’t know?

Have you ever met someone, and thought, there has GOT to be more than one person crammed up inside that head of hers… Rational thought simply does not exist around this individual.  Chaos rains down her.  And you are left standing there, holding the proverbial bag wondering what in the hell just happened?  I have just such a person in my life, actually I have a couple.  I’m lucky like that…but today I will zero in on just one.

I have to deal with absolutely insane woman at my daughter’s school.  I cannot get away from her.  I am beginning to worry that soon, I will be the truly crazy one.  I enjoy a good old fashioned throw down as much as the next person, but when your adversary looks, to the outside world like Suzie Homemaker, complete with a tray of warm cookies in one hand and a cross-stitch throw in the other, who is seriously going to believe that she is a devious masterminded lieutenant in the Underworld army?  Nobody!

So, that leaves me festering. Standing in the hallways, shaking my own head, thinking Woman, your crazy is showing.  Unfortunately, no one can see it except me.  What did the heroes of mythology do when faced with evils unimaginable?  Didn’t they forge weapons from the Styx River?  Maybe later, I’ll go for a swim…Now who’s crazy is showing?

Here’s hoping your CRAZY stays tucked in tight today!!

  • Well, how about the ultimate Southern put down: “Well, bless your heart!” Built to handle crazy and a whole batch of other issues. Hopefully she’s not southern enough to understand.
