New Year, New YOU?

Happy New Year!! (Insert your own fireworks here)

It is January 2, 2019. WOW. Just out of curiosity, how many of you make new year’s resolutions?

I understand the thought process behind the idea of resolutions…I mean, it IS the beginning of a brand new year. You get to have a clean slate, so to speak. Why not try and make the most out of it? But, when the rubber hits the road, can you really see them through? Or do you fall back into your comfortable, usual, and normal routines?

My oldest child is a senior in high school this year; which means that in about six months, he will move out of my house and have to fend for himself. I must confess, aspects of that fact frighten me.

I don’t have a fear of empty-nesting…after all I have two more still at home. My fear is more realistic. Can he feed himself? Has he ever, in all his years in this house–changed the sheets on a bed? Evidently, he has been thinking about these issues as well. His New Year’s Resolution was to become a more independent member of this family.

Awesome.

What does something like that entail? For starters, he will start doing his own laundry…or so he says. I would hope that this more independent person would also begin to pick up after himself.

Let’s just say, I have doubts.

Exhibit A: I walked into the kitchen this morning and found an OPEN loaf of bread, and the container of egg salad sitting on the counter. Independence sure is a wonderful thing!

My other two aren’t any better. One left a cereal bowl on the counter. At least my youngest had the sense to put his breakfast stuff in the sink. Eye roll.

I don’t make New Year’s Resolutions. Fortunately for y’all, I’m going to continue to be the sarcastic, foul-mouthed, cantankerous little ray of sunshine that you all have come to know and love. But what about you? To resolve or not to resolve, THAT is the question.

Happy New Year! 2019 is going to be a wild ride!
