Baby, It’s Cold Outside

in Giggles on February 8, 2019

Yesterday, as I was tooling around Houston, running errands and doing this and that, the temperature outside was a balmy 76 degrees. Yes, I realize that the rest of the country is preparing to spend this upcoming weekend locked in a deep freeze, but as of yesterday morning, we here in Houston were feeling pretty smug.

Insert phone call from the kids’ school.

Someone had forgotten something of monumental importance, and needed said item to be delivered ASAP. (After all, this is what I do all day–every day, simply sit by the phone and wait for one of my offspring to call.) As I was making my way through my to-do list, I stopped by the high school for the drop off. While visiting with the office staff, we noticed a shift in the ambient lighting…and glanced out of the window to see sheets and sheets of heavy rain falling from a once dry sky.

I was in the office for a total of 15 minutes.

I then faced the prospect of running through the rain to get back to my truck…thank goodness it was warm outside…at least that’s what I thought…until I opened the front door of the school and felt the icy wind cut right through me. The temperature outside had dropped 20 DEGREES in a matter of minutes.

That’s too much.

Folks, I live in Houston for a reason. Cold weather is NOT one of those reasons. For the next twenty-four hours, the temperature did nothing except fall. Today, we actually have SLEET coming down. I feel like I need to go pull my Christmas tree out of the attic!

Don’t worry too much about us down here; by Monday we’ll be knocking on 80 degrees again…if we survive the weekend!

Here’s hoping y’all stay WARM and DRY!!
